Text as a Feature for a Layout

This was also a challenge. You had to use text in a creative way. This is what I came up with. This page is going to be the first page in our family album. Each person in the family will have their own album and the family album will be a compilation of photos to share.
This technique is quite easy if you have a bit of patience and you don't need to know anything about photo manipulation programs as it's all done in Word.

Monochromatic Layout with Kaisercraft

This is a layout I made today for another challenge. It had to be monochromatic, so I've used Green s the theme.
Recipe:
K & Co. paper
Kaisercraft flowers
Kaisercraft rhinestones
Bella Chipboard letters
Making Memories green paint
Dimensional Magic
Ribbon - various

Tips:

I cut a strip of chipboard from scrap and painted it the same colour as the letters. I then anchored it with some strong glue dots onto my self healing mat so I could tie the ribbons easily without having the chipboard slip and slide everywhere. I put a bit of glue under the front of the last ribbon on each end, so the ribbons won't come off over time. I have used the same glue dots and some double sided tape to anchor it to the page.
I get all these plastic type bags with product in them and decided I'd put one to good use as a painting mat which meant I got paint on that and not everywhere else - it's also reusable.
I painted the letters first and put them to one side to dry and then went on to organise and mount the photos and fiddle a bit with the layout until I was happy with it.
Make sure you always have a bit of scrap with you it comes in handy when using Dimensional Magic. So when the paint was dry on the letters I added Dimensional Magic to all the letters. You can pop any air bubbles by using a pin and dragging the air bubble to the edge if it doesn't pop when you first put it into the air bubble. the last step in this point is to put some Dimensional Magic onto some scrap TI used the centre of the a). Now you can test the scrap to determine dryness instead of sticking your finger on a letter and ruining all that work.

Twin's Layout

I did this layout tonight for a challenge on a group I'm on. The challenge was to use 5 or more photos in a layout. I haven't done much scrapping since Mum passed away, so this was probably a good challenge to do. The photos are of my twins at various stages of childhood. Top left was taken in August 1986 (13 months old), the photo of them dancing together was taken on 14 November 1992 (7 yrs 4 months old0 at my brother's wedding. I'm not sure when the others were taken. My gorgeous twins turn 24 on 16 July. My time flies.
I used K & Company products for this layout.

Cuttlebug & Kaisercraft

Mojo Monday have this great sketch this week for their challenge. Pop on over there and take a look at the wonderful submissions from their design team.
Recipe:
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Stylised Flowers
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Distressed Stripes
Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks - Orchid Pastel
Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks - Dark Moss
Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks - Blue Iris
Prima Flowers
Kaiser Stamps - Friend
Kaiser Pearls

Method:
  • Take your Distressed Stripes folder and insert the card about 1/2 way up the folder - the card will be landscape and the folder will be portrait. So you will have some of the card stock unembossed in the first run. In the second run through your Cuttlebug you need to match up the stripes and move the folder in it's portrait position over to emboss the rest of the card in the landscape position. By matching the stripes, you get no overlap and you also have the card embossed right to the edge.
  • Take your Stylized Flowers folder and repeat the above process but use the top unembossed part of the card.
  • Use the Dark Moss to ink distress the Distressed Stripes and the stems of the Stylized Flowers.
  • Use the Orchid Pastel to ink distress the flowers and buds.
  • Cut a thin strip of navy card and adhere to the lower part of the card
  • Cut a piece of card from the light blue pearlescent Bazzill and a piece of navy blue so that it is a little larger than the Bazzill. Adhere this stack in place.
  • Now make another stack that will be a thinner and broader stack and when adhered together run through your Cuttlebug with the Stylized Flowers folder. Now adhere to card.
  • Make another stack using the Bazzill and some white card stock. Use the Blue iris to ink distress around both pieces of card before stamping the image or sentiment and then adhere in place on card.. Stamp the image or sentiment with Blue Iris.
  • On a piece of scrap white stamp an image in the Orchid Pastel and then use a round circle punch and punch it out so there is an even white space surrounding the image.
  • Cut another circle with a punch slightly bigger than the first and use a scrap of the Bazzill.
  • Adhere both circles together ensuring the white one is centred.
  • Glue some flowers where desired and then add some pink pearls to finish.

Cuttlebug Embossed 3 Times Card Technique

Over at Stamping 411 they have a weekly challenge that is based on the sketch they list for the week. Last week's challenge can be seen here. This is my interpretation of their sketch.
Recipe:
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Diamonds in the Rough
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Divine Swirls
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Swiss Dots
Stampin’ Up® Mellow Moss ink
Stampin’ Up® Lovely Lilac ink
Stampin’ Up® Almost Amethyst ink
Stampin’ Up® Scallop Border Punch
Stampin’ Up® Scallop Square punch
Creative Memories Square Punch
Creative Memories Fancy Square Punch

Method:
  • Place card front in Divine Swirls folder and emboss in your Cuttlebug and ink distress with mellow Moss
  • Place card in Diamonds in the Rough folder and emboss then ink distress with one of the purple inks of your choice
  • Place card inside Swiss Dots folder and emboss with your Cuttlebug, then ink distress with the other purple ink of your choice
  • Cut a thin strip of cream card and punch one long edge with the scallop border punch and adhere to card where desired
  • Choose your stamps and stamp onto cream card stock with one of the purple inks
  • Use the fancy square punch and punch out the 2 flowers
  • Use the plain square punch and punch out the butterfly
  • Now use some scrap purple card that will coordinate with your card colours and punch 2 squares with the scallop border punch and one with the largest square punch
  • Adhere the squares together and then on top of cream strip
Tips:
  • If you are using large flat ink pads like the Stampin’ Up® ones, you can gently wipe your embossed card surface over the top of the pad until you get the desired result.
  • It's best to be a little light handed and be able to add depth of colour or extra colour in a particular spot. If you're too heavy handed you will get large patches on ink onto the card surface where you don't really want it.
  • You can emboss a piece as often as you like. There is no rule that says you can only do it once, twice or thrice. if you check out one of my previous posts here, you will see I actually embossed the tag 4 times. However I did use a bit of a different technique.
Pop on over to Stamping 411 to see their current challenge here.

Double embossed card

Over at Caardvarks they have a challenge based on a sketch from Sheetload of Cards. This is my interpretation.
Recipe:
Blue metallic textured card (card blank)
Red card
Blue card (scrap)
White card (scrap)
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Divine Swirl
A2 Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Swiss Dotes
Martha Stewart Embossed Scroll Lace punch
Versa Color - white ink
Versa Color - indigo ink
Stampin'Up - Sweet Shapes stamp
Scallop square punch
Star punch
Psychedelic embossing powder
Ribbon
Metallic card scrap to punch stamps

This card uses a number of layers and techniques. The red card is double embossed. I've highlighted the Divine Swirls with white ink and the Swiss Dots with Indigo ink on the red card. i have also used the border punch around 3 of the sides. I have embossed the navy card and distressed it with white ink also. I have stamped the sentiment in the Indigo ink and then used the embossing powder and then heat set it. It comes out with a shimmery effect.
You can find out more about Doublebossed technique from Technique Junkies.
